Event Navigation

In place of the annual Beacon of Light Humanitarian Awards Gala, Lighthouse Youth & Family Services produced a television special,
Empowering Potential. This 30-minute show special premieres on WCPO/Channel 9 and on wcpo.com on May 27, 2021, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Empowering Potential will feature the life-changing stories of young people and families you’ve helped through Lighthouse, stories of courage, resilience, love, and hope. You’ll meet a young mother escaping homelessness, a Lighthouse foster parent who welcomes kids with open arms when their world is darkest, a nurse concerned about her baby’s development, and a Lighthouse specialist helping young people heal and grow.

It’s more important than ever young people and families in need have the chance to experience the joy of the holidays this year. The pandemic has hit them incredibly hard, but you can be there for them.

Will you make the wish of a young person or family come true?

Each year Lighthouse honors humanitarians with its prestigious Beacon of Light Award. Honorees are recognized for leadership and service, community impact, and involvement with children, youth, and families. We celebrate the accomplishments of our community’s outstanding individuals at a gala each spring. Proceeds from the gala support Lighthouse services.

In 2019,  Lighthouse Youth & Family Services is celebrating 50 years of service to the community.

The 2019 Beacon of Light Humanitarian Award Honorees include Chris Bochenek from the Haile Foundation, Howard Elliott, and Sherie Marek.

The evening will also include a special anniversary tribute to two long-time Lighthouse volunteers. Karen Abel and Fran Unger will receive the President’s Award.

The purpose of MLK Day of Service is to turn Dr. Martin King Jr.’s teachings into a day of action across the country and use it as an opportunity to deepen our commitment and connection to those in our community who are too often at its margins.

Greater Cincinnati HRC will once again be partnering with Lighthouse Youth & Family Services to provide care packs & necessities for youth reached by their street outreach team.

Also, so far this year, Lighthouse has served 363 individuals between the ages of 18 to 24. This year, we need Men’s & Women’s Socks, Men’s & Women’s Underwear, Men’s & Women’s T-Shirts, and other items available via the Amazon wishlist which sends items directly to Lighthouse. If you can’t make it please consider donating to the Amazon Wishlist!

Thank you!
