Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, a leader in social and human services for young people and families, is pleased to announce Thuy (pronounced twee) Kolik will join the nonprofit’s leadership team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Kolik will succeed Judy Oakman, who will retire this fall.

"Our shelter is always full. What we see is that the young people we serve need someone to walk side by side with them, connect them to resources, and set some goals. It's about giving them a pathway. We're always building youth up to walk that path." Bonita Campbell, Vice President of Homeless Youth Services.

“That’s the lowest I’ve ever been,” said Walker, who is now 23. “I thought about it for a second, and I said, you know, I’m very independent. And I am independently bringing myself to a homeless shelter so I feel like I could get a lot of help.” That is exactly what happened.

Ryan Hall breaks into a wide smile when he recognizes the young man sitting on a retaining wall taking a long drag off a cigarette outside the Downtown library. “Hey man, how are you?” asks Hall, a homeless outreach manager for Lighthouse Youth Services. “You doing OK? Where you staying?”

The reason he thinks he's made it through, “It’s faith. There’s a reason. I feel like I was supposed to go to Paint Creek. I honestly feel like I wouldn’t be the young man I am today. I feel like I wouldn’t think how I think. I wouldn’t move how I move. I feel like I really needed that time to evaluate myself as a person and find out who I am.”

Safe and Supported's Host Home Program serves LGBTQ youth who have no other place to go.

Lighthouse President and CEO Bob Mecum says a simple mantra guides his work at Lighthouse Youth Services. "We help ourselves by helping others. We make ourselves stronger by helping others. We make our community stronger by helping others. We become a better person in so many ways by helping others, and that’s what makes this country great," he said.
