We value volunteers.

lighthouseLighthouse invites you to become involved and participate in our organization. Direct-service, program committee volunteers and special event volunteers will discover a variety of stimulating opportunities conducive to personal growth, and the satisfaction that comes from making a difference.

Direct-service volunteers

Lighthouse Youth Services seeks to engage community members; church, civic, school and social groups; and corporate entities. Volunteer opportunities may be short-term, such as one-time projects or special events. We also have ongoing, long-term opportunities that require a minimum commitment of 100 hours.

Internship opportunities are available for students enrolled in an accredited college or university fulfilling requirements for a field placement or practicum. Lighthouse requires a commitment of at least 100 hours.*

We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have about the volunteer program at Lighthouse. For more information, contact Lauren Frooman at (513) 487-7154, lfrooman@lys.org.

Volunteer Application Process

In the interest of safety for the children and youth we serve, Lighthouse employs a comprehensive application and screening process.

Individuals interested in directly engaging with children and youth must be at least 21 years of age, unless participating in a college sanctioned field placement or practicum.

Applicants must complete the following steps before beginning their volunteer assignment:

  • Complete a volunteer application
  • Submit the name and mailing address of three personal or professional references
  • Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator and a program representative
  • Undergo a Hamilton County police check
  • Submit to being fingerprinted by Lighthouse for the Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation
  • Attend Volunteer Orientation

All volunteer applicants are considered for all positions without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or handicap.
