Lighthouse invites you to become involved and participate in our organization. Direct-service, program committee volunteers and special event volunteers will discover a variety of stimulating opportunities conducive to personal growth, and the satisfaction that comes from making a difference.
The CARES Committee
CARES Committee volunteers work together to make a direct impact on the young people served by Lighthouse. Members are invited to serve on sub-committees to develop and implement projects assisting a particular program, or they may simply pitch in to help with projects that fit their interests and schedules. The whole committee meets bi-monthly to receive updates on Lighthouse events and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are invited to participate on the following sub-committees:
CARE-ing Cooks
Lighthouse Community School
Special Projects Committee
Youth Mentoring Committee
Committed volunteers on the Youth Mentoring Committee serve as one-on-one mentors to youth, ages 10-18, who have been placed in out-of-home care by the Juvenile Courts. Mentors are carefully selected, trained, and paired with youth based on interests and personality. Mentors are expected to:
Maintain a permanent relationship with their mentees
Attend leadership forums with their mentees the fourth Saturday or Sunday of each month. These fun and educational events last five hours and include activities such as: visiting a farm, attending a sporting event, attending an etiquette luncheon, or participating in a community service project.
Communicate regularly with mentees, spending time together once or twice per month outside of the leadership forums
In return, mentors receive training, support, and the satisfaction of providing stability and support to the youth who need it most. The Youth Mentoring Committee seeks dedicated mentors. Please contact Lindsay Schoeni (lschoeni@lys.org; 513-487-7151).
*Note: the Youth Mentoring Project was originally under the auspices of the Mathis Foundation for Children.
