In honor of our 40th Anniversary, here are 40 ways you can be a Lighthouse supporter, volunteer or friend!
At Lighthouse:
- Take a tour of a Lighthouse program or facility
- Cook a delicious meal for a group home or the Youth Crisis Center
- Make the yard beautiful at a group home by planting flowers or doing other yard work
- Help in our administrative office with assembling information packets or mass mailings
- Decorate a shared living space to make a client's stay more home-like
- Adopt a program by painting, cleaning or hosting a cook-out
- Tutor a student of the Lighthouse Community School in math or reading (100 hours required)
- Teach a group of clients a special skill: make-up application, knitting, painting, job interviewing, cooking, how to play a musical instrument, etc.
At Home:
- Invest in children by making a donation to Lighthouse Youth Services
- Donate baby supplies, household items, clothes, personal care products, etc.
- Sponsor a Foster Parent Appreciation Banquet or REAL Dads graduation ceremony
- Compile a house-warming package for a youth who has aged out of foster care and is now living in his/her own apartment: cleaning products, personal care items, etc.
- Host a birthday party, baby shower, or other event,and request gifts for Lighthouse kids
- Improve a child or teen's self-esteem with a gift certificate for hair cuts
- Buy a roll of bus tokens for a client to get to work or school
- Contact our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss new volunteer opportunities
- Organize a drive for: books, diapers, baby supplies, bras, personal care products, etc.
- Bake cookies or a cake for a group home or for the Youth Crisis Center
- Allow clients the opportunity to attend events and attractions by donating tickets
- Make sandwiches than can be delivered to homeless youth in our Outreach Program
- Fund educational teaching supplies for a Lighthouse teacher
- Donate an age-appropriate magazine subscription to a group home
- Write your representative to support children and family services
- Sponsor a youth or family during the holidays
- Purchase YMCA, zoo, or other memberships for a youth or foster family
- Sponsor a child's birthday with a $50 gift certificate
- Provide gift certificates for groceries to a family in need

In the Community:
- Attend a fundraising event
- Represent Lighthouse at a volunteer fair in your workplace or place of worship
- Tell a friend about your favorite Lighthouse program
- Be a positive role model as a volunteer or philanthropist
- Invite a Lighthouse representative to speak to your class, club or group
- Get involved politically by supporting Children's Services
- Introduce yourself and get to know a Lighthouse board member
- Designate your United Way contribution to Lighthouse Youth Services
- Hire a Lighthouse young adult
- Become a Lighthouse foster parent
- Talk to your place of worship or civic group about getting involved with Lighthouse
- Remember that ANYONE can be a Lighthouse advocate by simply spreading the word!
